The Youths of the Gaming Community

In the age of Technology rose a new kind of entertainment. An amusement that one might even call a sport! Well-known as the hobby of many, ‘’Gaming’’ is the action or practice of playing video games. According to a 2024 Gamer Demographic Statistic, there are 618 million people in the gaming community who are 18 and under. They are known as ‘’Gamers.’’ These youths are active within the community simply because they are involved in gaming, whether they be a casual, hardcore, or, more rarely, a professional player. For them, gaming is an extension of the physical world wherein they play to hang out with friends online, to pass the time, or even gain confidence by building their self-image! Truly, the world of gaming shook the world with its influence and impact with youths from our generation being at the forefront of this.

Let's Play Support!

As the popularity of gaming continues to rise among the younger generation, especially in the Philippines, it's crucial to address the mental health issues they face, particularly during this time. A Research titled, "Online Game Addiction and the Level of Depression Among Adolescents in Manila, Philippines," shows that Filipino youth are increasingly involved in gaming activities. However, they also experience mental health issues like anxiety, depression, and gaming addiction. These issues can significantly impact the well-being of young gamers in the country.

By advocating for mental health awareness within the gaming community, we can provide support and understanding. This creates an environment where young gamers can navigate their problems effectively while feeling valued and respected by the people around them.

Breaking the Stigma surrounding Mental Health issues

Many young gamers, especially in today's generation, hesitate to talk about their mental health struggles due to fear of judgment or stigma. By advocating for mental health awareness, we can break down these barriers and create an environment where young gamers in the gaming community are accepted, supported, and respected. Let's create an environment where our young gamers feel comfortable discussing their mental health concerns without fearing judgment from others.

The Importance of Educating Others

Not everyone understands the challenges that young gamers face regarding their mental health. By raising awareness about this matter, we can educate others about the stressors that gamers may experience, such as cyberbullying, social anxiety, gaming addiction, and more. Increasing awareness may help us better understand the mental health struggles of young gamers in this generation.

Providing Resources and Support for the young gamers of the gaming community

Advocacy for mental health in the gaming community involves connecting young gamers with resources and support that can help them cope with their mental health challenges. This includes promoting access to mental health hotlines, counseling services, and support groups specifically for our young gamers' needs. By providing these resources, we can help young gamers lessen their struggles, take care of their mental well-being, and know that someone understands and is willing to listen to them.

MENTAL HEALTH CHALLENGES FACED BY YOUNG GAMERS

Escapism

Young gamers sometimes turn to gaming to escape their real-life problems. While gaming can offer temporary relief, individuals need to be aware of when they're gaming too much to avoid their problems. Seeking support from friends, family, or professionals can help individuals, especially young gamers, navigate their problems more effectively.
